Family Turkey Project

My son was given a "Family Turkey Project" by his Kindergarten teacher.  He told us that he wanted oysters for his turkey feathers.  Ask and ye shall receive!

Virginia Watermen's Heritage Tours

In April of 2015, we went to the kick off for the Virginia Watermen's Heritage Tours at Merrior in Topping.  This program helps watermen get the word out to the public about booking Eco Tours.  We're happy to be on the list with some really great people.  Check out the Virginia Watermen's Heritage Tours website!

Working on an Autumn day

Some days you forget that you are lucky to call your "office" such a beautiful place!

October Nor'Easter

It was a soggy time around the Farm when we had several days of wind, rain, and abnormally high tides.  Thankfully we fared well!

Introducing the Molly Anne

Introducing the Molly Anne!  We purchased this boat locally back in the Sping of 2015.  She was built in Crisfield and is a 42' foot Carmen.  We finally got around to hauling her up at the end of September.  She's looking sharp with new copper and a new name.  We also sent the wheel off and made a few changes.  Bring on winter oyster drudging!

| Eco Tour | September 5, 2015 |

The weather was a bit windy but it made for a cooler time on the Great Wicomico today.  We took out five people for an Eco Tour.  What a great group of folks they were!  They asked great questions and were an easy group to accommodate!

We started out inside and tumbled some oyster seed.

Then, we headed over to the tanks where we wait for peelers to eventually shed and become soft crabs.  There were a few that had already shedded and then there was this crab who we call a "buster".  By the time we returned to the dock, she had already shedded!

We fished a few crab pots off of Fleeton Point.  The pots were pretty full and we were able to send our crew home with some crabs.  (Forrest called and put in a good word for them at KC's Crabs and Cues and had Cecil steam them up for the guests.)

Hand tonging is usually a thing of the past now that most boats have hydraulic capabilities.  It's still fun to try to oyster the "old school" way.
